experimental house

project designers: Jeffrey P. Turko, Gudjon T. Erlendsson

The aim was to create a sustainable house through the use of the material ETFE. ETFE was used as the primary envelopeof the house, in order to create a flexible living environment for a range of climates. The translucent / transparentqualities of the etfe created a 21-century vision of the glass house without the use of glass. The house is made of 3 distinguishing elements, ETFE texlon variable skin structure, internal solid volumes and theground. The main structure is a steel ETFE structure that acts as the environmental control of all internal spaces. TheETFE volume is treated as a single open space that is occupied by 'solid' private spatial elements.
