The Teaser aims to generate a heterogeneously spatial environment within the context of the atrium of the University of Houston's College of Architecture. Through the use of a repeated component that is laser cut and scored from aluminum sheets and folded into a rigid structural form and bolted together.

The component production is based on a standardized sheet size of 1200mm x 2400mm. With minimal cuts for the removal of materials from the sheet for the openings for attaching components with bolts and for the final formation the remaining cuts would be perforated score lines that act as the folding moments in the sheets.

Assembly of the components into a formation can be left to the emerging needs of the location or the spatial demands that it is required to fulfil. For the repeat competition we aimed to produce more intimate scaled spaces within the vast atrium space of the College of Architecture. The hierarchy of the construct is broken in to two half's sectionally. The 'base' acts as the structural support. The 'canopy' acts as the enclosing device. Together they organize the spatial configurations and experience. The transmission of light through the canopy elements and the visual porosity through the base elements will vary over the day due to the changing light conditions that enter through the atrium roof lights. There is also the option to vary the component dimensions in the X/Y planes to fine-tune this experiential quality.
